Myself and a couple of friends are planning to tackle Browns Peak on either 4/5 or 4/6. I thought it might be helpful to have somone who has done it to have along as kind of a guide. Or if you havnt and just want to tag along, be my guest. E-mail or pm me.
FYI - Im still getting myself back into shape. If its possible!

I just did this one with Arizonheat and Cactuscat. None of us have done it before and made it to the top. My sugestions are to take a copy of Teva's description of Browns Peak with you. Fritzski 's picture of the scree chute can also be valuable to take.

You don't want to stay on the Amythest Trail, it just takes you away from where you want to go. Last week there was about 3 feet of snow in the Chute. I'm sure there still will be snow in it. You might want to bring trekking poles or something to help you out in it and bring gloves. I did not bring gloves and my hands were frozen. The trekking poles can work sort of like a ice pic. It's better to use them then your hands. This climb is seriously steep.

There is another path to the summit other than the scree chute. I'm not sure how to find it, I just know it exists. Last time I was on the summit, there was a group of teenagers there. I left before them and headed down the scree chute. They were at the saddle well ahead of me although I never saw them pass me. I'm guessing there's a trail that goes eastward around the mountain and then up to the summit. I'll look for the trail next time I go.

In the trip page on this trip, there is a mention of going down some way other than the chute.

When we were on top we were sceptical about going back down the scree chute in the snow. We found a way that looked like it could work, but it was also covered in snow. We would of had to make a long traverse in the snow and it looked better to just go down the snow filled Scree Chute. If you have the right stuff and take your time it's nerve rattling, but not that bad. It makes for an exiting climb in the snow.
