If I adopted section/ Passage 23a – (Mazatzal Divide) who would be interested in joining me once a year for a 5 day backpacking trail maintenance gig?

@Spiced Rum

You should check in with the ATA and that section's trail steward to see if they are already planning maintenance projects.

I'm talking about becoming the trail steward for that section and working on it once or twice a year with a small backpacking crew.

I didn't realize they didn't have one anymore for that section. I shared a camp one night at Horse Camp Seep with the former steward a few years ago.

I would for a few days, but probably not five.

If you go to the ATA's calendar, you'll see that John Matteson (who is our Regional Steward there) is trying to do backpacking maintenance trips up there. It's a big job, needs TONS of work! Maybe you can help him out steward or no.

But we are looking for a steward for Peely to Barnhart. Horse Camp is the next segment.

I'm tracking the segment from Peely to Barnhardt, but would probably stay at Horse Camp and work back toward Peely.

I was on the Mazzy Divide yesterday form Barnhardt to Sandy Saddle. Recent Maintenance from Barnhardt to about a half mile north of Chilson Camp Turnoff. After that it was tight again.

I'd be interested in going out after the trail melts a little, probably not 5 days, maybe 3.

John Matteson is the guy to talk to, there is a link to email him on the ATA calendar. I was just out with him and Joe on working on the Divide trail.

My wife and I definitely want to come if another work weekend is scheduled for the Mazatzals. We don't mind backpacking in to get to remote areas.

I looked on the calendar, and there was nothing scheduled for that area through April. The last trip (in December I think) was mid-week. Like most potential volunteers, we work and can only do weekends. I hope they set something up for weekends in the future.

I would not mind working some trail maintenance into one of my days of a three-four day backpack that I have planned for March.

(taking into consideration remaining snow etc, but very flexible for March and nearly a ten day block of days off for Spring Break)

Keep me in loop if you are heading out..

If the trail is getting to overgrown in spots for my dog to fit through with his backpack, then maybe its time to concede that it needs a little work ;)

I just emailed John because I'm interested in helping out as well. John says to keep an eye on the calendar. If the weather warms enough, he has events planned for February and March.

Those are weekdays--we can't go. Why not a weekend? It's like they don't want any help.

...I sent a note asking them to schedule some weekend events.

Several people are going to join us Friday night or Saturday Morning via the Y-Bar trail if interested to do maintenance on section 23A and 23B from 15-18 Sept.

Would love to go, but we are going to be off doing the Teton Crest Trail and the Uinta Highline trail the first two weeks of September. Hope you get a good turnout.
