The Arizona Republic has put together a compendium of about 300 trails.

It's at:

http://www.azcentral.com/travel/hiking/hikingindex.html

We haven't had time to look it over. We suspect it is just a listing of all the various stories written by John Stanley, Christine Maxa and others.

Lame

We finally got around to looking over the AzRep's hiking thing. "Lame" is the only word we can think of. It might also be called "mostly useless" or "moderately useless" in the sense of, "Is the glass half full or half empty" kinda of theme. We long ago suggested to the trail writer there that they do a feature article on HAZ. Doubt they would feature HAZ now that they are beginning to promote their own substandard offering. Oh, well, that's about par for the Rep.

Just my 2 cents on this subject...

Their evaluations are inaccurate & I have had issues using their evals in making recommendations...especially what they reate easy/moderate...ends up way harder that you would expect. Do they actually go to these places ?

Does anyone have an idea on the "experience" of these writers...I have seen Christine Maxa's books (like them for its descriptiveness- especially flora & fauna)
