AZT SOBO Thru Hike in Fall - Need Friend!

Hey friends!
Im looking for someone to do a SOBO thru hike with me in the Fall. All the people I know dont think taking 2 months off is fun. They like the 9-5 grind I guess.
Im new to the scene, but not totally uninformed. Ive got my guide book and will be planning it in detail here soon. Looking to start maybe Early September?
Any tips from SOBO vets would be great too, even if you can't come along! Thanks for your time.

Hi,
I'm starting to look into doing an AZT hike and should be able to do a SOBO trip in September. Shoot me an email and we can start to chat about the logistics of it

I'm thinking about hiking in the fall. What date are you planning to start on? I'm tied up until late September. I would like to have a hiking partner because I have never hiked in an arid environment. I have hiked half of the AT in the past three years.

I started on the 1st of last September by myself planning to do a full hike thru. But only made it to Flagstaff after having an injury. ...planning on tackling it again this fall... planned on starting where I left off ... but if I had another hiker with me I would probably think of starting from the beginning and doing a true hike through. This time I would probably leave mid to end of September. If interested you can reach me at

I'm planning on a late season SOBO hike leaving Utah border on 9/30. Would love to know if anyone else will be out there!

I picked September 30th as my departure date from the Utah border SOBO if anyone is thinking of hiking around this time I could probably help coordinate a ride as my girlfriend and I will be driving up from Sedona.

i like the idea of SOBO in fall, way better than NOBO in spring, imho. seems like water will be easier to find (rain-fed creeks as opposed to snowmelt-fed creeks). i was going to hike from Utah to Mt. Elden in around 10 days, but a friend invited me to do another good hike out of state this month, so i'll do that first.
now i'm trying to figure out if i can do the above stretch next fall, or... i should tackle a chunk of the cdt.
i'm also torn between hiking with partners for companionship, or hitting these trails solo so i can crank out 20+ mile days.

Is anyone still planning a SOBO thru? Or possibly have already started?

I will be out there section hiking in Oct. and Nov. - pretty much in the middle as I have passages 19, 20, 22 - 25 to do yet. Plan to be on GC South Rim the 2nd week in Oct. also. I'm sure there will be thru-hikers out there as well.

I'm currently looking at a SOBO leaving Utah in late September! Just hiked the Highline passage twice for kicks and am very excited! As a northern Arizona resident, the dry south has me feeling a little anxious, so if any of you PHX/ Tucson folks have ever wanted to try your hand at trail magic, cache support, or hiking with a young Sedona kook, I'd be super into it!

I just realized I have been in contact with you Sandy. Thank you again for all the help. I'll be trailing behind, slowly, but surely.
Is anyone familiar with the alternate route through the Tortilla Mountains on Passage 15? I am thinking of taking it if weather permits.

I am getting pushed even later. Possibly October 21st start date... so late :/ ..but I will definitely be watching your guys reports and progress if you give any. It may be really helpful to me since I will most likely be last thru-hiker of the season if I make it. Don't know what to expect that late...
