Hey all... Time ta plan my next outing...

Would love to find a nice Backpack into a lake I could do some Fishing at, preferably keep and eat the fishies :y:
Oh even a river would be fine... as long as there are Fishies ;)

Probably looking at April, 2 days maybe 3 days... Not sure yet.

Really never spent much Time North of phoenix Much, so really dont know many Lakes in the area. Even if its only a short few Miles In, thats cool :D

Thanks all... as always really appreciate all the help you have given Me...

Fun Fun Fun

Message the Member that goes by the User Name, ALMAL ...He's the Main Active Member that does a lot of Backpacking and Fishing on this Site...I can think of a few Creeks and Rivers, East Clear Creek, West Clear Creek, Black River on the Reservation, Chevelon Creek....All of the Lakes that I can currently think of, you can drive to except for Chevelon Lake and there are a few ways to Hike into that one.... http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=2172 http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=19063 http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=764 April is going to be very chilly in a lot of those that I mentioned and the Water will be very Cold...Not sure how Active the Fish will be yet, but check with ALMAL as he will know....

Knoll Lake is a popular destination on the Babe Haught Trail. http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1764

An excellent choice for our Mogollon Rim late spring/summer timing :) . It should also be noted that this hike description is written for the shorter "hiking" option to reach Knoll Lake via the Babe Haught Trail parking off Rim Road FR300.

This hike description http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=815 is written for hiking the entire Babe Haught Trail to Knoll Lake, starting at the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery, Hwy 260 East of Payson to FR290 North.

However it is not recommended you stop and fish at the hatchery as the game wardens watch those fish ponds on a regular basis. :scared: ;)

April is going to be too cold at night for most people. If you like camping when it's 20 degrees, then go for it.

Chilly? Nah. In Flagstaff, we haven't had a night below 20 in weeks. On our last backpacking trip a couple of weeks ago, we camped at 7000' and I doubt it got below 30. Heck, lows this weekend are supposed to be around 30 again.

Even if it is cold out, you can sleep 10 degrees warmer than the surroundings by sleeping under trees, staying away from water, and avoiding drainage bottoms. Mid-slope under trees is the best.
