What, paving the AZT??? Colossal mistake!

Just received the AZT newsletter only to see the AZT is going to be paved, starting in August.
"We recognize that some trail users may get grumpy once they see their favorite segments of trail paved," said Chance McAdam, the ATA's new Director of Asphalt Projects. "That's why we have decided to keep a token segment of the AZT dirt – the 1.9 miles between the Mexico border and Montezuma Pass."
Whoopie, we'll have a whole 1.9 miles worth hiking after the paving is complete.
Just because something CAN be done, doesn't mean it SHOULD be done... :STP:
Due to knee and hip issues, I cannot walk more than a 1/4 mile on hard pavement before pain sets it due to the constant same step over and over. But I'm fine on uneven trail surfaces, actually the more uneven the better. So I guess as it said in the blurb:
For anyone who prefers hiking and riding on the dirt of the Arizona Trail, we encourage you to get out there and enjoy it before the paving project begins in August.
:yuck:
Wait a minute, isn't it April Fools Day? ;)
