Salome Jug, AZ :: Conditions

Just wondering if I waited too long this year to do the Jug. Thinking of this weekend 5/14/16. Anyone know if conditions are still favorable? Is it no fun late in the season or still OK? Better to wait until next April?

I would say that you are Borderline too late...You would be Flipping a Coin as to whether it's still Running or not. If it is still Running, I imagine it's just a Trickle now and the Pools probably aren't too bad, but if it quit Running a week or so ago, the Pools won't be very good either... So I guess it depends on whether you want to take the Time and Effort to get there and have it just be an "Eh" Experience or not....
If you have Rappelling Experience, the Equipment and a Wetsuit, Christopher Creek would be a better Choice right now....

I'm pretty sure most stuff on social media is fake, made to look like the poster is having a fabulous time and you aren't. I wouldn't trust it.

Best conditions I ever had at the Jug were on May 10th, 2007. Go for it!

Based on triplog stats, May is the most popular time to visit. I went in Sept. a few days after some rain, and slogged through some pretty putrid stuff in what was left of the pools

Need to get back there and have a more enjoyable experience ....

A friend of mine posted videos from this last Saturday, May 7th, showing him and his friends sliding down the rock into flowing water, and jumping into the large pool from above. Looks like prime time.. just double check that water level first before jumping

Bump. Anyone with intel about current conditions in the Jug? Thinking of heading out there tomorrow, but given the relatively dry winter, I wonder if there is any flow ....

Has anyone been to the Jug recently? If so, what are the conditions of the creek? Dry or flowing?

@khachaturian44 Recent Instagram posts looks pretty inviting. It’s possible that
@ddgrunning was there this weekend and can report...?

Went on Saturday (5/12). As expected, the water was lower than last year--even though I went a month later in June.
Flow was light; just a trickle over the waterfall, but still plenty of water to make an enjoyable trip. That said, some of the pools are starting to ripen up, with some algae starting to grow in the more stagnant areas. If the Jug is in your plans this year, I'd get out in the next couple of weeks. I've been there when it gets putrid--not fun. I'll post some pics with a triplog, shortly.

@ddgrunning Did you rappel or jump into the pool at the end? Is the pool deep enough to jump into this time of year? Thanks.

@khachaturian44 We rappelled. I think the pool is probably still deep enough to jump, but we didn’t check depth. However, further on, in the second to last pool, we cliff jumped from about 25 ft and the pool depth was 15+ ft. Didn’t touch bottom.

My grandson was there Friday and said they had a good time and did not complain about anything.
Of course he is only 14 and everything is good at that age.
