Planning a future expedition here...has anyone actually climbed down to the bottom of the crater?

A group of my peeps and I will be watching the Persieds Meteor Showing from Chumleys camp spot on the Blue Ridge Reservior this Friday night.... going to bag and tag Colton Crater and SP Crater Saturday August 13th. I have climbing gear but hike partner does not, so we will look for a non-technical approach.
