Passage 19 in Mid Feb

I will most likely be in the Mesa area in mid Fed. I was thinking of doing Passage 19 in about 3 days. Is 3 day a good time frame and even though I have done some research on weather conditions for that time of year I am not too sure. According to my research the closest I could get was Pheonix and the temps ranged for about 40 mid 70's. Is that a good estimate for the passage?
Thanks
Richard

The hike description page http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=2433 has a link to the current forecast. If you are on a desktop computer it also gives you the "historical weather" option (doesn't show up on mobile browsers).

About 20 miles of this segment is 4500-5000 feet. Historical temps for that area in February are high of 55 and low of 30. That's just average though. It could be warmer or cooler.

It would not be uncommon for there to be snow in the higher elevations, and if you're out there during a winter storm, it could be dangerous/stupid.

I would approach that segment with caution at that time of year. It may be quite nice. It's also possible that you should plan to have a lower-elevation alternative in case there's winter weather.

rbeamish1,

As chumley mentioned this passage is possible during Feb., but take to weather into consideration for will be cool at nights in the Superstitions. I can tell you I personally one year did the 3 day trip in January. Three days was spot on for passage 19. Day 1 = approx. 11 miles, Day 2 = approx. 10 miles, and Day 3 = approx. 7 miles. Weather was nice all three days. When it gets closer to Feb. double check the weather before and during your time here. If it has been dry and no rain you should be fine. Also, take in consideration to get to Rogers Trough TH you will need a 4x4 or subaru similar type vehicle. There will be spots that you will need all wheels moving at the same time.

In case you have to change plans from passage 19 then I would hit up passage 16-17. These passages offer some scenic portions of the AZT close to Phoenix. With these two passages together will give you about 37 miles vs the 28 with passage 19.

When you do get closer to your visit you can also reach out via phone to the Arizona Trail Regional Steward Central - Superstition Mtn. Range (Passages 16-19): Craig Gregory. My contact info is on the Arizona Trail website under the steward page and once there go to passage 18b.

We look forward to you getting to enjoy some of the Arizona Trail around the Phoenix Valley area.
