Does anybody out there have directional information on a cross that was supposedly erected by the family of one of the three guys who perished near Black Mesa & Yellow Peak a couple of years ago? I've heard that it's in the drainage to the north of Black Mesa? Any info or GPS tracks would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :wrt:

I've seen photos and looked for it twice on the way through there but never found it. The brush is tall enough that it would be easy to miss.

Bushwhacked through that area from Black Mesa Trail to Second Water Trail a couple of times and only found lots of old corner markers. It's rough going with the tall grass hiding the sharp rocks and lots of Prickly Pear.

Any links to this story? I hike there often and have not heard of this tragedy.

It was a a pretty big story back in 2010... try Googling something like this:
three dutchman hunters lost 2010

The first link gets you off to a good start.
