Camping near Peeley TH

The Earthiest and I were planning a quick camp trip for the weekend to enjoy some outdoors and get in a fun hike. We were wanting to do Mt. Peeley, but the Tonto rangers said no go for camping at the TH when I called unless we lugged our gear a half mile in, not the urge for this trip. I was figuring we could find something suitable for a couple tents and a small fire ring on the drive up, anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!

I've seen plenty of signs of people who have camped at that trailhead. If you'd like to stay within the letter of the law ... try Camp Grasshopper.

Awesome, thanks! I kind of figured there was TH camping that happened, and that we would be unlikely to have issues with rangers out there. This sure looks like a more scenic alternative to say the least.

there is a small cul-de-sac at the end of the road, at the peeley th. just to your north, like 8' off the road, is a camping spot. it looks like it has been used a hundred times. clean, tho. although, i cannot comment on the road conditions to get there.

The nicer camping is about 1 to 2 miles east of the TH, the TH itself isn't very flat, but if you walk down the trail 100 yards there is also a spot there that is flat.

Thanks guys! We enjoyed Camp Grasshopper 2 miles east of the TH. Fantastic spot, nice tree cover despite the heavily burned areas around. Definitely a little chilly though. Room for a few vehicle's worth of campers at the first spot alone. I did pick up some Arizona pinstriping on my truck, the scrub oaks are pretty thick on the jeep road.

Has anyone been to Peeley TH since this report? Looking to maybe go next weekend.

Hiked south fork/gold ridge on Saturday. Not quite to the Peeley TH but the road was dry and not a sign of snow anywhere close if that's what you're wondering about.
