Tachycineta thalassina

Common Names: Violet-green Swallow

Habitat:Forests, Wooded areas, Mountains and Suburban areas. Found throughout the Western U.S. States in the Summer. Winters and is a Full-time Resident of Mexico, with a few isolated Winter and Resident colonies in California.

Description:Dark, Metallic Green above, with iridescent Violet Rump and Tail. Tail is slightly forked. Below is White and bird has a White Cheek that extends above the Eye. White sides on Rump.

Comments:White above Eye and sides of Rump, distinguish this bird from the Tree Swallow. Violet-green Swallow lives in colonies.
