Toxostoma redivivum

Common Names:Thrasher

Habitat:Chaparral, Foothills, Shrubs in Urban and Suburban Gardens. Found in California, west of the Sierra Nevadas.

Description:Large Thrasher, with long, deeply curved Bill. Dark Brown above, Gray/Brown Breast, and Buff Brown Tail underparts. Dark Brown Eyes, indistinct, light Brown Eyebrow, and dark "mustache".

Comments:Not a big flier, prefers to "scurry" away, rather than fly. Feeds on the ground, using the long Bill to move leaf litter. Song is similar to that of the Northern Mockingbird, but harsher and less repetitous. An excellent "mimic".
