Hemidactylus turcicus

HabitatNative to the Mediterranean and West Asia. It has been introduced to some of the Urban areas in AZ including Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, Casa Grande, Gila Bend, Marana and Douglas. It appears in the Urban areas of warm Desert and Grassland environments of our State. It is normally found on the exterior walls of buildings at night, especially near a Light source.

DescriptionYellow, Pink, Peach, or Reddish Brown with dark spots or crossbars on body and tail. Scales are small and skin is soft and translucent. The upper surfaces are covered with small, pale tubercles. A faint, Blue/Gray tint is visible under the skin just above each eye. The Eyes are oversized in relation to the Head and the Pupils are vertically elliptical with no Eyelids. The Underside is White or Pale, sometimes with faint splotches.
