Phalaropus tricolor

Habitat:Prairie Pools and Marshes, Lakes, Rivers, and marshy Pools along the Coast. Found in Canada, the Great Plains and the Upper Midwest in the Summer. Migrates throughout the Western U.S., West of the Mississippi and winters in the American Tropics.

Description:A nicely patterned Shorebird, with a Needle-like, slender Bill, and Yellow/Green Legs. Pearl Gray Head/Back, with White Underparts. Black Stripe through eye that may run down neck. Chestnut markings on Breast and Back. Fall Plumage is Pale Gray above, White below.
Comments:Unlike other Phalaropes, this species does not have fully Lobed Toes, so it rarely swims, thus it will not be found at Sea.
