Habitat:Southern British Columbia, Northeastern Washington, Northern Idaho and Western Montana. Spruce, Fir, and Yellow Pine dense forests, Boulder covered slopes and Mountains below Timberline. Little is known about habits, but it has been discovered that it may not truly hibernate in Winter and will inhabit Burrows, Ground Nests and Nests in Trees.

Description:Large, boldly colored Chipmunk, deep Tawny above and on sides with Gray Rump in sharp contrast. 3 Black/Brown Median Stripes on Back. Tail is Rufuous above and dark Reddish below. 3 Brown and 2 White Stripes on Face.

Comments:It sandbathes and gives a short warning bark when alarmed.
