Hypaurotis crysalus

Habitat:Found in the Western States from Wyoming and Utah, South to Mexico. Oak Canyons and Foothills between 5000-9000 feet in elevation.

Description:Large Butterfly. Deep Purple/Blue above with wide Margins and a few Marginal Gold spots on both Wings. Both sexes below light to Brown/Gray with White bordered darker Line and Orange submarginal band on both Wings. Blue Patch and Black Centered Orange spot near Tail.

Comments:Adults associated with Gambel Oaks. One of the few Butterflies that will remain active after Dark or during Rain.
