Holbrookia maculata

Habitat:Found in Northeastern Plateau Basin in Northeastern AZ, along the sub-Mogollon Rim Country, Central AZ and the far North Sky Islands of Southeastern AZ. Likes open, sparsely vegetated areas with sandy soil or gravelly surfaces. Resides in level terrain between 2,200 to over 7000 feet in elevation. From Semi Desert areas to Wooded areas.

Description:Gray, Tan, Orange/Brown Base color, with up to 4 rows of Chevrons running dorsally. Base Color matches the Ground the Lizard resides on. 2 Black Stripes between the Forelegs and Hindlegs. Markings may be faint or absent in Males. Lacks external Ear Openings. May be distinguished from the Greater Earless Lizard by the plain White underside of the Tail.
The row of Chevrons extends all the way to the tip of the Tail on the Elegant Earless Lizard.
