Florida red-bellied turtles (aka Florida red-bellied cooters) are large aquatic turtles that are active year-round and are common in Florida and Southern Georgia. They are mainly herbivores and commonly lay their eggs near alligator nests. They are preyed upon by alligators and can be seen in brackish water. They are commonly exported in the pet trade and for consumption.
