The 1989 Chiva Fire sprawled over 6.3 by 3.5 miles here on the northern slope of Tanque Verde Ridge. Yet looking at satellite, from here east appears to have gained mercy despite the fire boundary.

If another fire does wipe it out, that cute little 8 ft monzanita sprig on the right will hammer down to 4 to 5 ft high clumps and the void between will be filled with catclaw.

Another nice stretch tunneled through manzanita reminiscent of Telephone Trail in the Pinals.
