Android 16 released June 10th 2025 will unexpectedly crash RS when you turn off airplane mode and quickly open another app. Which is usually a web browser or the camera.
Last year I tried an auto recovery system that failed miserably. For 7.2.44, I spent 4 weeks creating Android auto recovery round II.
It has worked umpteen times in emulators and on day hikes. There is one catch... That second paragraph needs to be embedded in your panic reaction to simply swipe RS closed and reopen RS if it looks like a truncated route or it's not recording.
RS Android records two instances. The screen you see and a process that cannot be killed by Android until you explicitly press Finish or Delete.
Once again: if the recording in progress is not continuing or looks truncated, swipe RS closed and reopen. It will auto recover.
That part was easier than getting audio to only and always play once.
Residual bugs surfaced and are already fixed in 7.2.47, which should release soon after testing:
• Activity Map Elevation Profile layout
• iOS audio
WHY
As seen in photo #2, Android makes decisions on your part. The previous wants you to be in a network of communications for stuff such as smart tags blah blah blah. In this case, when you turn OFF airplane mode and quickly open another app, Android has decided regardless of your settings, you must want that app to have full memory and power. 30 seconds is recommended by various sources but I've had very good results with 15 seconds.
