Jack took the other cairned trail which meant he spent more time in the wash so it took him a little longer to get to the Cave. So if you prefer not walking in the wash as much, be sure to stay to the high side and proceed in a WNW direction where you will end up climbing the flank of a hill for awhile before coming around to be above the wash.
