I bought this hat in October, 1981, for SFQC Phase 3 "Robin Sage" at Camp Mackall, NC. (I was support, not actually in SFQC.) I used the band to store my P-38. The stain is from ham & eggs c-ration. Many, many miles on this boonie hat, as I wore it for 20 years -- unwashed, because that would have washed out the good luck. Must have worked, because I'm still here. It is one of my most cherished posessions. I thought it was lost forever, until some cleaning this morning.
