First, a little history: I took the pictures for this composite from just north of the Walmart on the north side of Payson on May 15, 2012. It shows the sun-backlit smoke plume from the Sunflower fire in the southern Mazatzals. a fire that ultimately burned from May to July of 2012, consuming over 17,446 acreas. It was set by a fire-producing shell fired from a shotgun used at a bachelor party in the Sycamore Creek area. Well, duh! The person who fired the shell got probation.
