The village of Givenchy-lès-la-Bassée is just across the Canal d'Aire from Cuinchy. Current population around 800, it lost nine civilians and 23 soldiers in the Great War. The French translates as "The children of Givenchy who died for their country." It is dedicated to both British and French soldiers. It was really hard to get this photo as the sun was *directly* behind, and above, the stone. It was here I noticed the "5" on the paper sign, cluing me in that this some sort of memorial tour. Unfortunately, I did not have time to take the whole tour.
