In the oddest sighting of the day, we encountered heavy machinery digging up the bottom of the canyon. Not anywhere near a road.
*Revised - The west half of the north quarter of section 33 is private property (see red lines on topo map). This is in the extreme corner of that private land. You could easily hike past it without crossing the boundary as we apparently did. There were no signs or fences.
I wonder what kind of environmental assessment must be completed before doing work like this in a drainage ... even on your own property. "Wetlands" are a big thing back east. Not sure how that kind of thing is managed here in AZ.
