The logs and associated debris were being sorted into three stacks. One stack of log sections large enough for lumber, another stack of smaller log sections for the chip mills, and a third pile of limbs and small trees for composting. All debris was being removed from the forest and the trees cut close to the ground so finished areas would quickly recover to being a prairie with scattered trees.
