I love how redwoods just sprout from the remains of a former giant. It's amazing that these relatively young redwoods may be the continuation of an organism that never really dies. Imagine a tree that grows 300 feet tall over 2,000 years then falls over, then new green shoots spring from the fallen giant's trunk, branches and roots. One of those shoots then grows into a giant over 300 feet tall that will fall over the next time the Cubs make the playoffs. Think about this process repeating ad infinitum, and then you've got something to think about.
