The Bridge of Sighs; such cool geology in an already overladen geological place. There is actually a Bridge of Sighs in Venice, one of the beautiful white limestone bridges. Someone saw a resemblance to the Ponte dei Sospiri, translated from Italian as the Bridge of Sighs, and hence the name. Venetians, the legend goes, gave out a sigh as they caught their last view of the beautiful city from small windows on the bridge as they crossed over it, on their way to a prison cell.
Ellsworth and Emery Kolb named the Bridge of Sighs on their 1911-1912 river trip. Bridge of Sighs is one of the few Grand Canyon arches that is visible from the river (at mile 35.6, on the right). The Grand Canyon's Bridge of Sighs is located in Redwall Limestone and has a span of 15 feet and a height of 30 feet. Those caves are pretty cool too.
