This wall on the lower side of the gently sloping hillside appeared to have served as a retaining wall for the raised surface inside the compound making it more level. The wall on the uphill side of the compound also appeared to have been a retaining wall with the surface inside the compound being lower than the uphill side. So were these just retaining walls or did they serve the double purpose of both retaining wall and defensive wall?
