the cicadas were out en masse. We heard them almost the entire 5 miles. They would actually hit us from time to time. Who knew my hat would provide cicada protection. This was the only one that landed where I could see it (at least I think it's a cicada based on pictures I've seen, it's hard to tell from this angle but I don't know what else it could be). We saw quite a few of them but mostly just the red of their iridescent wings (not sure I'm describing that properly).
