Dr. Chandler held 1400 acres of unspoiled Sonoran Desert near the western end of present day Mountain Park Ranch in the Ahwatukee Foothills. Guests of the San Marcos Hotel would be transported along this 10 mile double-track dirt road to a "cowboy camp" to experience the desert and ride horses.
