I can't blame the Tucson based Center for Biological Diversity for the fire, but they did file a lawsuit which either prevented or delayed a planned fuel reduction project in this area, some time before the June 2010 Schultz Fire. Compared to similar areas close to US 89 and along the Little Elden Springs Road, this is rather sad. While operations may not have started here without the CBD law suit until after the Schultz, anyway, this is more a reminder why single species management and lawsuits by narrow sighted special interest groups can cause more harm than good. I seem to recall the suit being over failure to manage for "spotted owls". Lots of high quality owl habitat now, right?
