Maricopa Trail marker #3 with an interesting historical tid-bit. This marker on the sidewalk was at the beginning of a narrow strip of desert landscape passing between the backyard fences of houses on both sides. In Oregon we called these strips of land between houses "greenways" but desertway would seem more appropriate here. Could this marker indicate that the "trail" followed this strip? I was informed by a lady sweeping off her sidewalk nearby that this was not meant to be a trail. Evidently the developer building the houses back in 1997 thought these placards would be a good marketing feature for selling the homes.
