After the conjunction with Peter's Trail I am back in the burn (still on Dutchamns). This image is of a common occurrence in the sections that had burnt trees. While the upper part of the tree was dead, apparently the root system survived and is producing new growth. The darker/thick leaves in the middle are the same tree! I verified this earlier when I encountered a tree with both dead leaves and new growth at the base - they were the same.
