And here it is, at last. I was thrilled to see it. Grinnell Glacier right, the bottom of Salamander below me.
Grinnell Glacier is in the heart of Glacier National Park. The glacier is named for George Bird Grinnell (I met his great great granddaughter at the North Rim Store), an early American conservationist and explorer, who was also a strong advocate of ensuring the creation of Glacier National Park. The glacier is in the Lewis Range and rests on the north flank of Mount Gould at an altitude averaging 7,000 feet.

The last time I saw Upper Grinnell Lake was in 2003, twenty years ago when I hiked up to it [ photoset ] . The bottom of Salamander Glacier is above the lake, NOT the snow/ice mass to the right.
