One of the few plants that grow prolificly in the Petrified National Forest; at least where we hiked. I'm still not positive of this ID as there is little to no information or photos of the plant in this stage. I found it on the New Zealand iNaturalist site https://inaturalist.nz/taxa/148327-Atri ... wse_photos.

Atriplex saccaria is a ANNUAL growing to 0.3 m (1ft). The species is monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant) and is pollinated by Wind.
