I'm sure I took this same photo five days ago but I just can't help myself. That's Stoney Indian Peaks to the far left, the clouds are partially covering Mount Cleveland and this in front of you is Bear Mountain with a meadow of Senecio in the foreground. (Streambank Groundsel, Streambank Ragwort, Falsegold Groundsel) And now I have to go back and fix my other flora labels for this specimen.
Asteraceae (Sunflower Family). This plant was at first named Senecio pseudaureus by Rydberg in 1897 from a specimen collected in Montana. In 1981 Weber and Löve removed a number of species from the Senecio genus and placed them in a new genus, Packera. John Packer is a Canadian botanist. "Pseudo" is Greek for "false" and "aurea" is Latin for "gold".
