Quite the view down to McDonald Creek. We will be down there in a little bit as we wind our way along the narrow and sometimes curvy Going to the Sun Road which is what you're also seeing.
There are a lot of McDonald Creeks in the US. McDonald Creek, tracing the western section of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, flows down from Mount Geduhn of the Livingston Range McDonald Creek. This springtime rush of cold, mountain snowmelt has transformed this glacial stream into a thunderous river. McDonald Creek parallels the Going-to-the-Sun Road as it flows out to the ten mile long Lake McDonald.
The road is approximately 50 miles long and spans the width of the park between the east and west entrance stations. The National Historic Landmark Nomination records a slightly shorter distance of 48.7 miles which is measured from the first main intersection just outside the park's west entrance to Divide Creek in St. Mary, Montana on the east side of the park.
