Thanks goes out to HIKEARIZONA.COM for pointing out this gem of a trail. It's not something I'd recommend for your first hike back after a summer off (like I did), but man is it great! I was in search of some fall color and Weatherford gave it up in spades. But even the great stands of Aspen all ablaze were topped by the entire afternoon of peace and quiet I got. I had run into 1 group of 4 people on thier way down within my 1st 15 minutes of hiking and that would be the last human contact I'd see until I got back into Flagstaff later that night. Other then it being the wrong trail for a 'get your legs back' hike, this was pretty much perfect. A well maintained and marked trail though excellent terrain in perfect weather while the Aspens were at thier golden peak.....and I had it all completly to myself! Heck I was only sucking wind for the 1st 3 miles or so, then I think my body realized that it had done this a few times before and got in a groove. Of course my body paid for that ego the next morning =) To sum it up, it's a long (quiet) march uphill in an absolutly gorgeous setting. Get an early start though as I ended up finshing my last mile to the parking area in the dark. I cant wait to head up the Weatherford again when I'm back to a more normal hiking shape.
