| no partners | | Well, what a perfect morning for this hike. We got hit with some major rain last night and it shows on the trails. This specific area of trails goes all over. The preserve itself is like a 2-mile by 2-mile triangle. It is completely fenced end. But as far as the trails go you could hit an easy 15-mile hike without hiking on the same trail twice of course you will cross over sections you have done.
Now as far as dogs are concerned I would suggest they be kept on a 6-foot leash and nothing longer. I know, I know Rowdy is always off leash but Rowdy always hikes behind me unless he needs a water break and then he will pass me and wait in a shady spot. Rowdy does not bark at anything and he does not chase anything. And he does know what a rattlesnake is without the electric shock training. As a matter of fact, we came across a rattlesnake that won't move so I decided to put myself between Rowdy and the snake and Rowdy wouldn't have it. He move off the trail and just laid down so I decided just to go around it in the brush and Rowdy was happy with that.
Because this is a preserve when people call for snake removal this is where they turn them loose including Gila Monsters. Needless to say, this is where I see the most snakes, lizards, and other creatures. Last year I saw 5 Gila Monsters here and numerous other snakes. |
