Beautiful hike. I have to lead this hike later this month as part of the Carhart Wilderness training course for Wilderness managers, so today was a prep day. Really nice hike, saw a single bighorn sheep just past Cottonwood Spring, he was there both on the way to and back from the peak.

Weather looked questionable at the start of this hike, so I took along my raincoat. By the end, however, it was sunny and 65 degrees. Nice hike.
Surprised to see a few flowering shrubs (snakeweed and rabbitbrush) and summer annuals.

After my enjoyable hike a few weekends ago, I asked my husband to join me today. We had a fine day, with weather perhaps a bit warm for the uphill portion. The mistletoe had started flowering in parts of the wash and smelled absolutely wonderful. Mistletoe flowers very early on in the spring, especially in the south-facing washes. The bees were busy there, and not very concerned with us. Also, saw a few other perennials that had started flowering (desert globemallow, brittlebush, prince's plume), all located in protected, south-facing portions of the wash.
We didn't see anyone else the entire hike. Spotted a few birds and lizards.
Great views, as before, although the sky was very hazy today. We sat at the peak to eat a late lunch and enjoy the views.

Suddenly remembering I had a day off work, I decided to go hiking somewhere nearby.

This must be one of the easiest summits I have ever hiked, but it offers truly amazing views well worth the modest effort required. Along the route, I frequently found myself stopped, just staring at the rocks, plants or views. As I gained elevation, the washes were damp in places, and even a bit of flowing water in one spot. This is definately a place I will revisit for additional exploration.

I saw one couple with their dogs and one hiking group from Lake Mead with 3 upset-looking teens dragging along behind their parents. Don't know what their problem was - :?
