After several months repreive I decided to hike Cholla after negotiating "time to de-thaw" after spending a very cold week in Chicago for work. Every time I hike CB I wonder why did I stop doing this several times a week? I Spoke with a gentleman who has lived in the area for 28 years but had never hiked CB...which for me is difficult to comprehend...I spend several weeks a year in Chicago, Des Moines, Boston, and various parts of Florida where 80% of the time I end up talking about all the great hikes in AZ and most of the time CB is part of the discussion.

Hiked to Tortunga trail counter clockwise returning via a new marked trail that offers an alternative to the road. The first tank was full of sand and unfortunately the shovel which I have seen in the area on previous trips was not to be found.

After a lazy summer I decided to get back on the trails, round trip was 20 minutes longer than when I hiked it in April it still felt great to be back on the mountain.

Up Peralta and down the Cave trail which was easy to follow using basic trail finding skills. Peralta was as usually fairly crowded but we ran into only three other groups of hikers on the cave trail.

This is becomming a popular area based on the number of cars in the lot however we only ran into 3 other groups of hikers on the trail. Took the Tortunga trail clockwise, suprised to see Cave Creek is still running but at the lowest flow I've seen. Both springs were still flowing but the lack of rain was evident on the main trial which now has several inches of a very fine dust like foundation.

New favorite Sedona trail! A little crowded at the start but it thins out once you pass a few watering holes. Diverse vegitation, towering cliffs, and of course lots of red rocks. Found the most relaxing resting point approximately 2.25 miles in. Will definetly go back and explore some more!

....Mention of poisen ivy in previous log and on the trail...my legs are starting to itch :?

Parts of this road are fairly rough (washboards)but still accessible with any vehicle. There is some color in the area but not much.

Enjoyed this hike so much when I hiked it for the first time in mid December I had to share this trail with a few friends. Despite the parking area having the most number of cars I've seen we only ran into two other groups of hikers. Due to the recent rain, unlike the last time I took this trail we there was a water crossing at the start of the Tortunga trail and cave creek was much wider and slightly deeper than usual. Observing debris on the bank of the river and in the trees this creek may have been as high as 5-7 feet above normal!

Many people must have made a "get in shape" resolution, the upper parking lots were full and there were so many people I might as well have been hiking Camelback.

Started out Saturday around 11:00 followed by a guy taking his llamas out for a walk. This area must have recieved heavy rain, once the jeep trail turns into a single track trail it's a bit difficult to follow at times with all the green grass. Both spring had water and Cave Creek had a decent flow. Ran into several groups of hikers and a few on horseback most of the other groups were traveling counter clockwise, I prefer clockwise.
