Don't let any of the outdated descriptions discourage you from visiting this remarkable spot! Both access roads, 6910 and 70, are signed, well graded and easy to follow. They're a bit washboarded in places, but yesterday I easily drove both averaging 45 - 50 mph in a passenger car. And the falls were roaring, throwing up mist and making rainbows (see the pics)! You definitely want to see it under high flow conditions (like now, following a good wet winter). You can check the conditions from the bridges which cross the Little Colorado at either Leupp or Cameron, or from I-40 just east of Winslow for that matter. Definitely worth the effort!

This is a tough but rewarding hike in classic, pristine Sonoran desert, with lots of up and down and huge views in all directions. We did the clockwise route, climbing up to the looming mesa on Trail 248, east along the top, then dropping way down into lovely Cottonwood Creek, still running gently after the rains earlier this month (as was Cave Creek, which was easily crossed by rock-hopping on the way in). The grass is taking over the trail on top of the mesa and also when dropping down the east end of the mesa, so you get to hone your cairn-spotting skills to stay on track. Wouldn't dream of doing this hike in summer, but it was wonderful today!

Only 3 diamonds for this hike?! Maybe my son & I gave it a 5 rating because of the gorgeous snow in the upper canyon and on Secret Mountain. We went all the way to the end of the Secret Mountain trail for superb looks into Boynton & Secret Canyons. There are a few spots where downed trees obscure the trail, but even with the untracked snow (except for the deer and elk), it was fairly easy to follow. Even the lower canyon sandy areas were firm with all the recent moisture - all in all a fantastic day.

My son & I enjoy distance trail running and found this to be a decent workout. The canyon isn't gorgeous, but its pretty enough, and the trail rises at a nice grade and isn't so rocky so it can't be run at a fairly even pace. There are some sandy spots here and there, especially at the beginning. The short trip up Munds Mountain to catch the red rock views to the north is a must.
