It was a cool overcast day with a high of 70. Perfect day for hiking in my opinion. Hiked this one with lovely Dulce Carolina. We did some exploring nearby this route but didn't find much besides what was in the guide. The windmill was not spinning but appeared to be operational. We saw a fence that bordered private property. We found an abandoned mine that was filled in and sealed. Saw some amazing saguaro cactus with about 8 arms.

This was the closest guide based on what we hiked. If I have time I may write a guide for this.

We started on the Arizona trail near the American Flag Ranch. After about 1/2 mile on the AZ trail, we made a right turn into the wash that headed in the direction of American Flag hill. We followed the wash for almost 1 mile, and then got on top of the ridge of American flag hill. It's all a bushwhack to the top, but it's fairly easy and not so long to get to the top. There were some interesting rock formations along the way, and great views from the top. We headed down the East side of the mountain and ran into a trail after about 10 minutes of bushwhacking. That trail took us Southeast/South down the hill until we found the Arizona trail. The trail we were on seemed to end 100 feet before we saw the AZ trail. Once on the AZ trail, it was an easy loop back to the parking area. Without time constraints, we would have hiked to the American Flag tank, High Jinx Ranch, and other nearby landmarks.

Explored this cave with Dave on a nice cool day in the 60s. I rode my Suzuki dirt bike up from American Flag ranch and Dave followed me in his car. I've been to this cave several times but it was Dave's first time here. He was amazed at this place, and I really enjoy it every time. I always keep coming back once a year or once every 2 years.

In 2019, I was at this cave and saw a ringtail cat. We got some good video of that. I'll try to upload photos from both times.

Because of time constraints we weren't able to finish exploring the entire cave. Good luck on your date, Dave!

Went to the Bowen house, and then onto the not-so-famous Painted Cave, then bushwhacked to the top of that mountain and back down again. This is probably the 5th time I've been to the Painted Cave, and 7th time I've been to the Bowen house. Probably will go back again to show other friends this amazing place.

High temps were about 58 on Jan 2, 2022. We saw maybe 20 hikers near the bottom section, below Bridal Wreath falls. Hiked to campground and back, but also stopped at the 2 major waterfalls along the way (Bridal Wreath and Ernie). Saw a great flow of water and pools below Bridal Wreath falls and Ernie falls. Found some nice hanging branches with icicles to the left and right of Bridal Wreath falls. Nobody was at Ernie falls when we were there, but some people were hanging out at the stream 1/4 below it, where the trail went to. Saw one camper way up at the Campground who planned on going to Juniper Basin the following day, and 2 other hikers coming down from Cowhead Saddle. From many parts of the trail it was possible to see snow up on Mt Lemmon and snow on the high ridge up near Helen's dome. It was a clear day and the sun was out which made it quite comfortable with just 1 T-shirt and a flannel shirt over it. The trail was not rocky and one of the best in the area in terms of comfort and avoiding foot pain.

Met Jim on a colder day with a 20% chance of rain that turned into 100% as we got rained on part way up to Panther Saddle but the rain didn't last long.

It was a great adventure and I didn't mind the bushwhack down from Sanctuary Cove to the White Stallion Ranch horse trail, or the mild bushwhack down the North side of Panther canyon. It's easy to get off the cairned trail going up to and down from "Panther saddle".

No registry on the peak. Wanted to add one but forgot. Let's put a single jar here to ease the burden on the glass recycling plants and reduce the burning of coal!!

Hiked with Joel from Florida. We skipped the peak and just did a 5 mile loop around this area. This is maybe the 5th time I've done a loop like this. Easy enough. The goal was just to get out and enjoy the nice weather. No park pass needed here.

Well I made it to the saddle and planned on going to the peak, but then received a confusing text message about a 911 call. Needed to hike down the mountain to rescue a confused friend, and his dog, who consumed a bit too much wine that day (the friend, not the dog). The lesson to be learned here is always bring water, never drink before a hike, and stay calm at all times. Don't dial 911 unless it's truly an emergency. Sorry to Jim for having to put with this. The friend did apologize and we thank him for his service in Iraq!!

I was tired of being cooped up in the house after having a common cold or common flu which apparently still exists during this ridiculous covid hysteria. I met Jim and hiked this loop on the Upper Javelina, the Wild Mustang, and back on the Wild Burro. I believe I've done a similar loop on 2 previous occasions. Since the last time I was here, I noticed a few benches which I don't believe were here before, or maybe I just didn't notice. We heard the flute sounds from the Ritz near sunset which I thought was very therapeutic! Originally I thought the flutes were only played on Sundays but I found out this occurs daily.

It was possible to take this canyon a bit further than was described in the guide. Having been here 3 other times before, we were determined to "find the ending point", which is often impossible. During the entire day, we needed to hike around at least 4 major waterfalls, some of which only had a trickle of water at this time of year. Each one is more impressive than the last. After 4.65 miles of walking up Bird Canyon, in addition to the ~2.2 miles to reach Bird canyon, we reached a Y-split. To save time getting back, and to be able to see the entire canyon, our goal was to hike out of Bird canyon and take the Esperero trail back down. We turned left at the Y-split and climbed up a very steep section to a high saddle. From this saddle we were surprised to see what we believe was either Cathedral Rock or Window Peak. The views were incredible for this point but we had only about 1 hour left of light and a very steep and possibly dangerous bushwhack down the side of Esperero canyon. Do not attempt this unless you are comfortable going down steep and gravelly slopes. Some areas needed to be spider crawled but we made it to the bottom just as it was getting dark. In a nice forested area, we were able to find the Esperero trail and followed it approximately 6 miles to get down. This part of the Esperero trail was excellent with soft dirt, not much rock and all downhill! Although it was a long difficult hike, the views and scenery in Bird Canyon were quite incredible. This is one of my favorite canyons hands down.

Took some other friends to the Bowen house and Painted Cave. Lonnie, Sara, Grace (15), Adam, Kaitlyn (7). Some of them were first time hikers and others were beginner hikers. Because of time constraints, 3 members of the group only had time to make it to the Bowen house. The rest of us made it to the Painted Cave.

General directions to painted cave from Bowen house - travel east along the trail, look for an old metal water pipe in the wash. Continue along the trail until it exits the wash. Here you'll see many teddy bear chollas. Continue for another 1-2 minutes up the hill and you should see a trail branching off the right. Take that trail for another 1/4 mile and it will then go uphill and along the side of a mountain. After the trail levels off, continue for another 500 feet. Look to your right, across the canyon, slightly higher up and you will see a large hole in the canyon. A trail branches down to the bottom of the canyon and eventually up to the cave. The cave is only big enough for 2 or 3 adults to sit inside at one time.

I believe this was my fourth time hiking way up high on this trail. Two other times to Mt Kimball and once to Little Kimball. It was my first time since the Bighorn fire in the summer of 2020. We noticed a lot of burned trees roughly 1 mile from the peak. This was after crossing through the canyon and going up the steep hill. Burned area was quite large but from this point we could see many green trees up higher near the peak. We guessed that firefighters were battling in this area and perhaps created a "burn line" to prevent the fire from spreading even more. Before getting to the burned area there were 2 distinct hoodoos, one of which I climbed, and both were only about 2 minutes off the main trail. From the front these hoodoos look very difficult to climb, but on the back side there was a relatively simple way to get on top of the Southern-most hoodoo. This is one of my favorite places on this hike aside from the peak. Also, Linda Vista saddle is awesome. A great place for an early lunch with amazing views of the city and great views in all directions.

---- WHERE ARE THE REGISTRIES???? ----
We looked for a long time, but didn't find a registry at the peak. Who and why would someone remove these? In my opinion, the registry is a great way to record hikers experiences and we always enjoyed looking back and trying to find our names from year's past. A few times we were lucky enough to find these entries. These registries certainly don't hurt the environment in any way. Didn't see one on Pusch Peak either a few weeks ago. Didn't see one on Pontatoc Ridge end and didn't see one Panther Peak either. Let it be known that some of us are pissed about it!!!

Hiked with Brian up to Pusch Peak but instead of taking the trail, took the canyon up, turned left and bushwhacked up to the North ridge and then bushwhacked east to the trail and then continued up to the top of Pusch Peak. Probably my 10th time here or more. Used the trail to come down. Met Dave on the Linda Vista trail who was still recovering from a leg injury. Hiked another loop around Linda Vista trail to complete the day.

We finally made it up here after many years of seeing the amazing photos. There was a $20 entry fee that is not covered with any annual pass. Park in the lot and take the short hike down to the lookout area. There were hundreds of people there but it was more crowded in the front of the fenced area. It's possible to walk around the curve of the horseshoe on the North and South sides. There's no fence so don't get so close to the edge. There were some amazing photo opportunities. We saw some boats traveling along the river which were probably part of a tour. If you're staying anywhere near Page, AZ, this place is definitely worth seeing. I've heard in years past people just parked on the road, but that's not allowed any longer. As a result, the road is usually not so congested around this area.

We got a tip from some Utah locals that this place was underrated and definitely worth seeing as it was close to where we were staying and relatively easy to get to the trailhead. The hoodoos here were quite amazing and I've never seen anything like it. The hike follows a river bed the entire way and at least 4 miles of hiking are just getting to the area where the hoodoos are which is the West side of the canyon. There were 3 groups of hoodoos on the West side of the canyon with the 3rd and last group being the most impressive. The hoodoos were basically white pillars, some 20 or 30 feet tall topped with brown colored rock.

Hiked Wire Pass trail/canyon to get over to Buckskin Gulch which I was told was the longest slot canyon in North America, and perhaps the World. It was quite an amazing place. The first segment was wide open but then we entered a slot canyon within the first 30 minutes of hiking. The canyon opened up in some places and the rock formations were quite amazing. We saw evidence of flash flooding in the canyon including tree debris that was wedged between the canyon walls about 15 feet above the ground. This place could be very dangerous if there's been a lot of rain anywhere in the area.

We did a segment of this amazing canyon in Southern Utah which was supposed the longest slot canyon in North America, or possibly the World. Needed to take Wire pass canyon to connect to this canyon. The ground was sandy the entire way which make walking a little tedious but the views and rock formations inside the canyon were incredible. It was hard to believe this canyon went on for this long without opening up. We saw a pool of water in the canyon about 4.6 miles out which we made our turnaround point because we didn't want to get wet. In warmer weather and with proper gear we would have continued on.

Brian and I hiked the lower part of the Paria canyon trail. In this area the canyon was very wide and the trail was one of the best I've seen. The trail was sandy and very easy on the feet. There were very few rocky areas. The trail followed the west side of the canyon. Near the beginning of the trail we stopped at the Lonely Dell Ranch. There was a 100 tree orchard here with a variety of different types of trees, along with some historical information. This time of year, there wasn't any fruit here.

Due to time constraints we only were able to hike the lower 3 miles in and 3 miles back. Apparently the entire trail is 43 miles long and has 8,500 feet of elevation change.

Hiked with Brian up the Brown canyon trail to the junction with the Hamburg trail, followed that trail North for 1/4 mile. Decided to try bushwhacking down Ramsey Canyon which was more than we expected. After reaching a steep drop off, we climbed up the side of the canyon and eventually back down to a milder part of the canyon. Eventually we ran into the trail which took us down to Ramsey Canyon Nature Preserve. We eventually ran into a road which took us back to the parking lot to finish the loop.

Hiked down the creek to the trail on the North side of the South creek branch. Then took the trail up to the rim and back to the starting point. I was able to stay fairly dry hiking along the creek because there were many ways to go around the water flow. I didn't have to cross the creek at all at any point of this 4 mile loop, but I'm sure I could have in a few area if it was necessary.
