Decent dirt 2wd access. 2 burnt structures from the Cave Creek Fire. Pretty shaded drainage with 50 gph spring.

Across drainage from Columbia Spring. 10-15 rooms, 2-3 foot walls, mostly leveled and overgrown. Nice shade though.

Just west of Camp Creek. At least 4 burnt structures. Really nice shady real estate. 50 gph spring with handmade rock pools.

No name spring. Tried road climbing steep grade to the north, but upon reaching the ridge, could see a 4WD trail leading up the spring drainage proper. That's the way to go in the future. No time today.

Mesquite Canyon Trail to Goat Camp Trail to Ford Canyon Trail back on Mesquite Canyon Trail. Mesquite Springs pretty lame. Checked out source of Willow Springs on top of cliff, nice smooth tanks, shade. But nothing beats Willow Springs proper, great pool, shade, rock ampitheater. What more could you ask for?

Found decent path at southeast drainage to summit. Numerous mining trails. Came down east face, very rough, bouldery.

East of Lake Pleasant, 4 wheeled to base, then continued on foot when "road" got too rough for the Taco. Followed ridge southwest to highpoint USGS marker from 1910! Excellent seating on west face in the shade, very comfortable. Otherwise very little shade and rough terrain on most of the mesa. Very quiet and fairly hot.

Down South Kiabab in intermittent drizzle, lightning in the distance. 4 hours down to Bright Angel Camp. Did River trail loop clockwise for the sunset, very nice.
Day 2, hiked up to Phantom Canyon and waded/explored a bit, then back to the River trail for another sunset. Numerous tame deer near camp. Swam, lounged, etc.
Day 3, up at 4 am, started on trail by headlamps, no light till Bright Angel trail, cool morning, no direct sun till Indian Gardens. Saw a Grand Canyon Pink Rattlesnake! Resthouses were nice, only spent about 1 hour total in the sun, temps in the 90's. 5 1/2 hours from bottom to top.
Great trip, coming out this way seems like half the effort of the Hermit Trail, not bad at all. I still prefer the Tonto Platform to the Inner Gorge, but my Bro' had never been to the bottom.

Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area. Spur Cross to Limestone to Elephant Mountain to Tortuga Loop. Cave Creek flowing nicely, Limestone tapped to concrete tank, clear water with minnows! Actual spring inaccessible, thick brush and mud. Page spring also tanked, smaller spring but nicer rest stop. Tortuga dead end loop the most boring trail in the world.

Peralta to Fremont Saddle for sunset. Saw Gila Monster and Tarantula. Sweet. Down the other side in the dark along overgrown trail to Pinon Camp. Very nice, flat with water nearby from all the rain.
Up at 4 am to get back to the saddle for sunrise, found an awesome dry camp northeast of saddle with perfect seating to view Weavers Needle. Continued back along Cave Trail, steep smooth slopes and missing cairns made for some bushwacking. Not a great route for a heavy or external frame pack. Caves were numerous but shallow, good storm shelters at best.

No Name west of Lake Pleasant. Lots of trees, cattails. Numerous pools up to 200 gallons, could be swum in a pinch. Javalinas stopped by when I got quiet. Their huffing in a small canyon space is intimidating. Water leads down to Pipeline Cove.

Dripping Springs right next to Castle Hot Springs road, nice shade.
Mud Springs aptly named, near old ranch operation, building remains.
No-Name I'll dub "Palm Spring" for mature palm presiding over its origin, nice trickle waterfall, numerous small pools downstream. GPS's rule for finding springs.

Shoemaker has 10,000 gallon pond, but mucky bottom. Quail only small pools-40 gallon or so, but nice flora. Tadpoles!

No longer a spring. Animals digging in sandy wash bottom to wet sand. On of the drawbacks of topos based on 35 year old arial photography.

Rough 4WD to get close, like driving on bowling balls. I'll hike in next time. Deepest mine yet, y-shape 100 yds deep. A few bats cruised out over my head. Man, that makes my heart jump. Looks stable, very clean floors. Probably very cool in summer.

Poppies Incredible! Decided to bag peak 3171' (Light no. 1)on way to tunnel shown on topos. Went a little too hard too long and got woozy. After checking out the concrete pad where Light no. 1 used to be, I headed down the opposite side leading to tunnel. It was loose, steep, cholla packed and filled with dead ends, dropoffs, and thick brush. Gave up and returned to truck, too shot to enjoy poppies. Was not supplied for killer workout.

Overcast, flowers not open. Pretty scarce actually. Landscape some of the best to be seen however. Soon to be housed I'm sure.

Spillgates small but still wide open. Huge lake fills entire lowland between the concrete and earthen dams. Umbrella handy. Spillgate for lower dam even better, tethered kayaking anyone?
