Access via Northwest wash. Loose, brambly slope. Coming down just as inefficient. Is there a better way? Rock formations on eastern slope look worthy of further examination.

Off trail from the northwest ridge. A couple camping on the ridge! Illegal but showing good taste. "Ogre's Den", as it was called by a group I encountered, lies west of Tom's Thumb about 200 yds. A natural shelter formed by a suspended boulder, the cave could easily shelter 20 people from rain or sun. Nice seating, sleeping for 2 comfortably, the most extensive summit register I have ever seen. Excellent. Descended along trail leading east, then north down the main wash between Tom's Thumb and East End. This trail gets my vote for best long/strenuous Trail in the city.

My vote for best short trail in the city. Not for the clumsy, but small enough for beginners. Great view of main peak from peak across saddle to the west.

Non-technical but very steep. Some loose sections but no real exposure. I approached from the south up the gulley. A couple in their 20's at the summit. Awesome seating for a sunset on the west side.

This is the cool-looking peak you see to the south of Carefree Highway just west of the Lake Pleasant intersection. Short and steep, with dramatic vertical rock all around. A little road noise but not bad.

Great hike, mostly up the umbelievably narrow paved switchbacks leading to the radio towers.
Did this with some "Wandering Souls" as a moonlight hike. Great city lights and plenty of natural light for this trail. Perfect.

Summit 2045'. I could not get access to this area until an electric gate opened and I asked the woman exiting if I could pass to climb the mountain. She was gracious enough to allow me in and there was actually a nice trail right to the top!

South Mountain Park National Trail to Hidden Canyon Trail with a few friends from work. Fat Man's Pass and the "tunnel" are very cool with great shade.

Right in my backyard. Nice sleeping circle near western summit, possibly built by paintballers. Great crested saguaro near northwestern summit radio dish.

Parked at CAP Canal gate, and approached from the southeast. Followed steep, loose gulley to summit. Summit cairn with millions of dead flying ants. Awesome shady grotto just north of summit with a sandy bottom and a fire grill. Someone has camped up here, and I know why. One of my favorite peaks.
