I decided to head on up Daisy Mountain today. As my usual, I parked at the end of Circle Mountain Road and hiked from there. I didn't see any of the yellow caterpillars, so they don't seem to be in the area like they currently are at Deem Hills. Near the end, I passed a lady wearing a backpack, so I asked her what she was prepping for. She answered, the Trans-Catalina Trail. Sounds fun.

It seems the annual yellow caterpillar (or whatever those are) migration has begun. I noticed a few yesterday, but today they were all over the trail. I play a game to see how few I can step on, or maybe I should say how many I can avoid.

I passed a lady on the trail, and she commented on how green everything is. She is right. After all the rains and humidity, there is lots of small plants and grass growing. The Brittlebush and the Ocotillos are leafing out. The Palo Verde are bright green and so are the Creosote. All the cacti, from Cholla to Saguaro are perking up. I imagine we'll get some late summer flowers soon enough.

The trails are no longer dusty, and all the dirt has been washed off the rock and caliche. That makes the walking a little more difficult but in general, not much of the trail has rutted, though there are some areas. The mud is gone after two days since the last rain.

It was storming when I awoke but calm when I started my walk. Muggy and overcast until I finished the climb up the Ridgeline trail when the sun came out. It started raining lightly on the descent even though it was still sunny. Continued raining lightly until I left got off the trails and onto the path.
