I had a nice 20lb pack, they each brought 2 backpacks, filled with all sorts of things including, but not limited to: 2 giant cans of Dinty Moore, 4 lbs of steak, shovel, hatchet, Costco sized bag of trail mix, set of THREE pots and pans, and a grill grate. ONE car in the parking lot on a Wednesday AM. A bit warm on the first stretch and between the 2nd and 3rd crossing but otherwise a nice morning. Found a real nice camp spot/ fishing hole that we stayed at most of the time. I forgot a charger in the car, so I had to run back to get it, just an extra 7 miles, no biggie.. We did explore upstream a bit but its all pretty much the same after a while. Pretty awesome that is. Caught a total of 5 fish, 4 rainbows and 1 cat. Nothing big enough for dinner. Lots of spiders. Had a black rattler hang out with us both evenings, but he did his thing and we did ours. No problems. On the way out we saw a tarantula hawk wasp dragging a spider down the trail and it kept coming at us when we tried to pass it. Pretty cool. We had to take turns running by it.
Funny story - the snake spotting the first day and then all the daddy long legs hanging around camp freaked these dudes out big time. As soon as the sun went down, they wouldn't even get out of their tents to hang out!
They said they had a good time, I got them broken in a little at least. |
