Just a little 3 day backpack/fishing trip with some guys that have never camped outside a campground before. I had a nice 20lb pack, they each brought 2 backpacks, filled with all sorts of things including, but not limited to: 2 giant cans of Dinty Moore, 4 lbs of steak, shovel, hatchet, Costco sized bag of trail mix, set of THREE pots and pans, and a grill grate. :-s ONE car in the parking lot on a Wednesday AM. A bit warm on the first stretch and between the 2nd and 3rd crossing but otherwise a nice morning. Found a real nice camp spot/ fishing hole that we stayed at most of the time. I forgot a charger in the car, so I had to run back to get it, just an extra 7 miles, no biggie.. We did explore upstream a bit but its all pretty much the same after a while. Pretty awesome that is. Caught a total of 5 fish, 4 rainbows and 1 cat. Nothing big enough for dinner. Lots of spiders. Had a black rattler hang out with us both evenings, but he did his thing and we did ours. No problems. On the way out we saw a tarantula hawk wasp dragging a spider down the trail and it kept coming at us when we tried to pass it. Pretty cool. We had to take turns running by it.
Funny story - the snake spotting the first day and then all the daddy long legs hanging around camp freaked these dudes out big time. As soon as the sun went down, they wouldn't even get out of their tents to hang out!
They said they had a good time, I got them broken in a little at least.

Multiple people flaked out for another trip, so I decided to go up on the rim for a couple days with the Lunatic. Found one of the last camp spots in Sitegraves right on the edge of the rim. Wandered up Beaver Canyon, up to the road above, followed that for a while, and then went down into Turkey Creek for the trip back to the rim. Beaver Canyon was cool. There were some fenced off sections and there were nice bear prints in the mud under a fence. The canyon narrowed after that and then opened up a lot under the powerlines. Followed what looked like a very old road along the right side for a while, and then went up to the actual road above. Explored my way down into Turkey Creek and then back to the 300. No fall colors yet and I saw zero animals, was probably because of the temps. Just nice to get out of the blazing heat for a few days.

Just a quick in and out with the Lunatic. Mostly just did some exploring around today. Started at 6AM just after sunrise and it was amazing out there in the morning. Actually felt warmer near the creek due to the humidity. No bighorn sightings today but did hear something very big up on the cliffs just after the 2nd crossing. Also, saw a small rattler that took off as soon as it heard/felt me. Be back soon.
Also, they need to get rid of the garbage can and get bigger signs telling people to pack out their trash.

The brother Jamaal was in Flag for wilderness first responder training and invited me to hike with him and his friend YaYa. The 3 of us, along with a few hundred people and couple dozens dogs started up the trail in beautiful weather. The trail is very wide and its needed with all the people. Trail is up in the forest for the most part, so when the trees break there are some good views to remind you how high you really are. I thought we were making an excellent pace when right about at the 11400 sign, Jamaal started hurting and decided to not go any further. YaYa and I hit the (party) saddle at 2:40 and the summit at 3:30.. not too shabby. Those Squaw peak mornings helping out. Definitely felt strong the whole hike. Didnt even rest for 15 minutes when the sleet started and then the wind and then the thunder and then the hail storm. We scurried as quickly and as safe as we could toward the tree line as marble size hail was coming down sideways and pelting everyone. From that point on it was like a completely different hike. Did the ol slip n slide a couple times on the way down. Was a great experience for sure and always great to make new friends. I forget how great this trail is even with all the crowds.

You know how you always have those friends that are like "I would love to do that sometime" when you show them photos of a hike?
Took my friend out to do some fishing and get him used to the trail in prep for a backpack trip in Sept. Totally different parking lot on a Thursday .. Smoke and a thin cloud cover kept most of the sun off. I made the first crossing and when I turned around to assist my friend, I looked up and there were about 10 sheep up on the ledge not even 100 feet away. They didn't even budge and even started coming down towards the water after a minute, so we kept on the trail. Super Awesome Experience! Made it in the top 10 Greatest Hits! Stopped at a few fishing spots on the way down. The stretch between the 3rd and 4th crossing was hot. Laying in the cool creek at the end is always the best. Took a very leisurely approach to this hike which is best because this place is so chill and I love it. And.. we didnt catch anything lol
