Up early at 3:30am and on the trail by 4:30. Used headlamp in the beginning. Could see light of a couple others ahead of me. Wound up passing them and had saddle to myself at 5:15am. Admired the sunrise casting its rays for 30 minutes then started back down. 45 min up. 30 min down.

Patchy snow cover made this an interesting hike. You never knew which step would sink you up to thigh deep in snow. Several of us tried different lines, but often with the same result. It was like a game of footstep roulette. Most of the time we were okay.....then swoosh, right down past the kneecaps. We topped out just below 12,000 feet at Silver Dollar Lake, then returned same way. Great views the whole route.

On trail at 4:45am. Just enough daylight at this time to leave the headlamp behind. Pushed up to the Praying Hands in 32 minutes. Took a break, then returned via same route.

Good to be back out on the trail. I've been absent from my happy places while dealing with some intermittent lower back pain. Lots of ice, heat and massage on Sunday. Woke up feeling good Monday.
Hiked from Hwy 88 trail head out to the Praying Hands and beyond. Short break at my destination then back the same way.

Not a fan of LDSP. Open gate at road will get you as far as the self pay, only to find out that all the trailheads are gated off. Days of Mining Camp TH are long gone and so are the 2-hour Flatiron round trips. Longer hike-in means less opportunities for me to hike the Flatiron. Used to do this one before work on a week day. Anyway, it was good to get back out to an old regular. Took 3 hrs 20 mins to knock this one out today. Too long for my midweek morning hikes.

Been doing a lot more Peralta's lately. Great challenge, great views, no fees, no gates.

P.S. - Noticed a sign at LDSP warning PRO photographers that they need a special permit to photograph the mountain. Come on, really? How is the park going to enforce that one? Who is pro and who is amateur? Who will determine and with what data?

Just one day after the Tinder Fire started, I made my way up towards Blue Ridge Reservoir for some kayak time. Around Clint's Well, I started seeing digital signs announcing that a fire was up ahead. Then, upon turning on to the dirt road leading to Blue Ridge, there was a sign stating that the reservoir was closed. ](*,)

I was bummed, but wasted no time getting back on the road towards Winslow for Plan B, East Clear Creek out of Winslow's Clear Creek Reservoir. Plenty of people on the water as I made my way upstream pass the graffiti covered cliffs. Just kept on paddling and soon the people and graffiti were long behind me.

The further you paddle, the better it gets. Higher cliff walls, calmer water, greater solitude. On this day, it was just me and my dog, Enzo. We made it off the water by 5:30pm and headed back home, stopping at Mackie's in Payson for a delicious Curly Joe hamburger.

Busy day with limited time for a hike. Drove to Broadway Trailhead. Started on the cave trail to Jacob's Trail and continued on Jacob's Trail until I reached 1.5 miles. Turned around and back the same route.

Drove up the road from the property to the falls with intention of hiking further up the East fork of the canyon. Anna and my mom along for the hike. We started at the turn-off near the falls and hiked up canyon for 1.5 miles then returned. Perfect cool day for a walk in the White Mountains.

Haven't done wind cave in awhile. The masses were out on this beautiful Easter Sunday. What better way to leave the crowds behind than to venture on to the peak of the mountain. Refreshing to see that some kind soul had gone to work removing the ugly white arrows from the non-maintained trail up to the top. Reminds me of the days cleaning ugly orange and blue arrows off the Siphon Draw with several HAZ comrades.

The air was clear, great visibility and only ran into a couple other hikers who had the same idea as me. Crazy busy trying to get back down the mountain. Fortunately, I had no intentions of setting any speed records on the way down.

Started at 5:55am in the dark. Probably could have skipped headlamp, but didnt want to stumble around, so I used it for about 10 minutes. New PB to the top. 42:03. 26:32 on the descent. That may be a best also. Strava app recorded the ascent segment at 41:26. Probably due to variation in start/finish locations.

Started at 5:40am. Nice colors in the sky by the time I passed Praying Hands. Continued on to the Bear, then returned on the same route.

Hard to believe, but this was my first trip ever to visit Broadway Cave. Since I knew it would be facing the west, I figured sunset hour would make the best experience. I started at 6pm which was just a little behind schedule and forced me to hustle. Made it to the cave one minute before sunset. Snapped a pic of the setting sun then stuck around to watch the colors change. Returned by light of headlamp. Still lost the trail coming down from the cave. Picked it back up with help of my gps trailcrumbs. Pretty dark out, so was happy when I found the trail again.

4 to 6 inches of new snow on Thursday led to another fun trip up to the White Mtns. My son and I enjoyed the fresh powder and no lift lines. We drove up Friday morning, hit the slopes for 6 hours, then drove home. Long day, but a good time with my boy.

Another Rev FI in the books. Took my son up for this one. Peak covered in clouds when we started just before 11am. Park was packed so opted for the Reverse instead of chasing crowds.

5:45am start in the dark. Forgot my headlamp....but gotta love backups. Yep! Had an extra one in my pack. On the trail and up to the Praying Hands well before sunrise. Plenty of light on the return and back to the trail head by 6:55am.

Started at Hwy 88 trailhead. Reverse Flatiron route via Praying Hands and then on towards the spire where the off trail fun starts. Made way up to 5024 then returned down Siphon Draw. Picked up Crosscut and back to 88.

Cancelled plans to go to Snowbowl after hearing about 28" snowfall at our preferred ski park, Sunrise. Drove up to the house in Nutrioso Friday night. Drove through light snow storm from Salt River Canyon all the way to Springerville. 6 more inches fell Friday night on the mountain. Saturday and Sunday were all sunshine, temps in the high 20's and little to no wind. Perfect! Great powder made for some fun runs and the crowds weren't too bad either. Saturday was the busiest, but crowds were light on Sunday.

Made a half day trip out to one of my Superstition favorites, La Barge Box. Started at the Boulder Canyon TH at Canyon Lake. Took an hour and a half to reach the Box. There I met a couple backpackers, Don and Andi. Both are Michiganders like myself. We talked, shared stories for about 45 minutes before I moved on and continued poking around the Box area.

When I returned, Don and Andi were almost complete packing up their camp. I said goodbye and started my way boulder-hopping back towards Canyon Lake. Again, it took me about one and a half hours for the same stretch of the route.
